editor@tnonline.comSome Jim Thorpe residents raised questions about Memorial Hall at the last regularly scheduled borough council meeting.Questions were raised about what is owed for Memorial Hall.Council member Jay Miller replied that $626,000 is owed, of which around $410,000 is the mortgage."The remainder (the amount after the mortgage) is split between the general fund, which is paid by taxpayers, and there is a loan from sanitation (fund)," added Miller.When asked what is being done at Memorial Hall, Council President Betsy Ahner said council is working on a marketing plan and will continue working on things for the Hall and discuss it further in December.She also stated that Memorial Hall has bookings throughout the rest of the year. Some residents suggested having town hall meetings to discuss this. Council member Joanne Klitsch, said that she would welcome the input from residents.Council member John McGuire also favored having town hall meetings.Other residents asked about having a park commission and getting volunteers involved to work with Memorial Hall. Gregory Strubinger, council vice president, said that there was a park commission years ago that ran the park and paid the bills.Currently there is no park commission and Memorial Hall and park are taken care of by the borough.McGuire and Klitsch stated that over the years council asked for volunteers to help out with the park and volunteers were hard to find.Regarding Memorial Hall council would like to look into getting volunteers to help out, looking into a realtor, work on a marketing plan and get more bookings, and work on Memorial Hall's website.In other news, council approved the Ragnar Race on Oct. 6; Trick or Treat night on Oct. 31 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.; the Police Services Contract for 2012; and Entech Engineering to submit the NPDES permit for the Sewer Plant in the amount of $3,250.00.
