A jury will begin hearing testimony Monday morning at the courthouse in Pottsville in the trial of Frederick Stumhofer of Orwigsburg for the fatal shooting of his father at his parent's home last fall.
President Judge William E. Baldwin is the trial judge.Stumhofer, 40, of 57 Summer Valley Road, was arrested by state police for the shooting of Franklin Stumholfer, Sr., at 6 Log Lane, West Penn Township, on Sept. 7, 2011. He was charged with one count of criminal homicide, three counts of attempted criminal homicide, six counts of aggravated assault, four counts of simple assault and five counts of recklessly endangering another person.Information filed to the court states that the defendant went to the home and allegedly got into an argument and allegedly fatally shot his father. He reportedly left the scene and was accosted by his brothers-in-laws who were in a pickup truck and came upon him in Windsor Township, Berks County, near Hamburg borough. He allegedly fired shots at the vehicle but did not strike anyone. He was later apprehended by police.District attorney Karen Byrnes Noon has assigned her two top assistants, attorneys William Reiley and Thomas Campion, Jr. to prosecute the case while the defendant has engaged attorney Robert J. Kirwan, II, of Berks County.
