It is now official.

Summit Hill has moved from the 122nd to the 124th Legislative District.It's the only town in Carbon County which won't be represented by the 122nd Legislative District, whose state representative is Doyle Heffley.Summit Hill will now be represented by Republican Jerry Knowles of Tamaqua, whose district comprises eight Berks County municipalities and 19 Schuylkill County municipalities.The state Legislative Reapportionment Commission voted 4-1 to approve the redistricting of 50 Senate seats and 203 legislative seats.The lone objector was Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa, a Democrat from Allegheny County.This marks the first time that a town from Carbon County has been moved from the 122nd Legislative District.Former state Representative and Speaker of the House Keith McCall, a Summit Hill resident, voiced vehement opposition to the proposal, as did Carbon County Commissioners and the Summit Hill Borough Council.The commission had until the end of the month to approve a redistricting plan, but completed the task two weeks early.Redistricting is required every 10 years and coincides with updated census figures.A winner in this year's redistricting was Monroe County, which will now have three seats in the House of Representatives as a result of the county's growing population.
