Members of the Phoenix Fire Company will hold their Christmas party on Friday, Dec. 9, at the company headquarters. The party will follow the 6 p.m. meeting of the members. Arlene will be accepting reservations until Dec. 3, by calling (570) 325-4251.Mitten treeThe Jim Thorpe Lioness Club will again be sponsoring the Mitten Tree in the Railroad Station during the Olde Time Christmas Festival, which will be held on Dec. 2-3. This is their 12th year of collecting mittens, gloves, hats and scarves to be distributed to the community food banks and Head Start. If you have any questions, contact any Lioness member.Live NativityDue to unforeseen circumstances. the live nativity, which has been held for the past nine years, has been canceled. There are plans to recreate the beautiful event for next year. The project was planned by St. John's Lutheran Church, and Ebenezer E.C. Church, both of the heights section of the community.ParadeThere will be a Christmas parade on Friday, Dec 2, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. leaving the Immaculate Conception Church, parading down Broadway to the park, where the tree lighting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. Following the tree lighting, a shortened version of the live nativity will be held at Acorn Court on Race Street, behind Chatelaine.Nativity displayThe fourth annual indoor nativity display will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue, on Saturday, Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 4, from noon to 5 p.m. A new addition this year will be a table that will feature all new articles being displayed.The display will be held in the downstairs of the church, and there is a step chair, for those needing assistance on the stairs. They are Dec. 2, 3, 9 and 10, at the Salem Bible Fellowship Church, 1105 Frederick's Grove Road, Lehighton, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.To ensure that a family is eligible, there must be a letter from your church/clergy, proof of public assistance or proof of unemployment. Only parents or legal guardians are permitted to register children. The person registering the children must have ID for themselves and legal guardians must have proof of guardianship. For each child being registered, a birth certificate and Social Security card are required. The age limit is 14, unless your child is handicapped, then the age is 16.Distribution of the toys will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Salem Bible Fellowship Church.Bible Study GroupThe Women's Ecumenical Bible Study group will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 6:30 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Room of St. John's Lutheran Church, South Ave. The group is open to all women of the community.
