Brush, line fire in South Tamaqua

Around 4 p.m. Thursday, Tamaqua Police, State Police and firefighters from New England Fire Company, Walker Township, responded to a brush and power line fire located adjacent and opposite to railroad tracks that run parallel to SR-309 in South Tamaqua, about one quarter mile up north of Carbon Lane. Police and firefighters had to walk the length of the tracks to reach the fire. Employees from the railroad called it in after seeing smoke rising from burning wires. Power was shut off to nearby homes and businesses while PPL responded to repair the line and restore power.
