Around 9:15 a.m. this morning, five people were taken by ambulance to the hospital after suffering injuries they received after the driver lost control while driving south near the 2500 block of West Penn Pike, near the top of the Blue Mountain Hill. The driver stated he lost control while trying to avoid a black cat that ran out in front of them. Responding were West Penn Township Police, fire company and fire police. Lehighton and other ambulances also responded. The names and current conditions were unavailable as of press time today.
