Last night's ferocious storm that downed trees left portions of the municipalities within the Palmerton Area School District without power into early this morning.

Palmerton borough manager Rodger Danielson told the TIMES NEWS this morning that portions of the borough were without power from 9:30 p.m. last evening until 1 a.m. today.While he wasn't certain of the actual cause, Danielson said very high winds contributed to the power outage."There were multiple trees down, a lot of limb damage," Danielson said. "It (affected) a good portion of the area south of Delaware Avenue and the west end of the Mauch Chunk (Avenue) area, even up to Third Street and west."Also, Danielson said 6th and Lafayette was closed to traffic as the work crew attempted to clean up debris from the storm. Several large trees were also down in the borough park, he said.Despite that, Danielson said the situation could have been worse."The early assessment doesn't show any structural damage to any homes, but there are probably some cars that are dented," he said. "Overall, as far as serious damage, it appears as though we've escaped most of that."As of 9 a.m. this morning, PPL announced there were 1,545 total customers out of service in Carbon County, while 2,983 customers have been restored.Lower Towamensing Township, Towamensing Township, and Bowmanstown Borough were those municipalities within the PASD that were affected most by the outage.Towamensing Township still had 574 customers without power, while Bowmanstown had 433, according to the PPL web site. Power had not been restored as of that time, the web site said.Palmerton had 35 customers without power, while 16 customers had power restored since the start of the storm. In Lower Towamensing, just seven customers were without power, while 1,566 customers had their power restored.
