The Mauch Chunks - as Jim Thorpe, Pa. - will have a single school district under the merger of the two towns, it was announced following a meeting of local school officials with representatives of the Department of Public Instruction in Harrisburg. The electorate of the two local boroughs voted last week to merge under the name of Jim Thorpe in honor of the late Indian athlete who won Olympic fame. The new school district will be known as the Jim Thorpe School District.
