May 24, 1982 Lehighton's Dennis Semmel clears 13 feet to win the gold medal in the District 11 Class AA pole vault. The event is held at Lehigh University's Stabler Arena because of earlier inclement weather. With the win, the senior qualifies for the state meet. Northern Lehigh's Darrin Evans takes third by clearing 11-9 while Pleasant Valley's Tim Wireman finishes fourth.
