A Schuylkill County driver was seriously injured in a one vehicle crash in which he was partially ejected from his car. State police at Frackville said speed was a factor in the crash.
Troopers said William J. Donella, 32, of Mahanoy City, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt southbound on Interstate 81 in Butler Township, Schuylkill County, about 8:35 a.m. on Monday, May 6, when he lost control of the vehicle. The car struck a concrete barrier located on the east berm causing it to flip over on the driver's side and traveled on the driver's side back across both lanes. The car then struck a concrete barrier on the west berm. It came to rest leaning against the barrier facing south.Donella was partially ejected from the car through the driver's side window. He flown from the scene by Lifeflight helicopter to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for treatment of what troopers termed major injuries.Troopers said witnesses at the scene stated Donella was traveling at a high rate of speed, in excess of 90 miles-per-hour, before the crash and may have been racing another vehicle.Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at (570) 874-5300. Troopers added that Donella will be cited for driving a vehicle at an (un) safe speed.
