75th year for LL fish derby
This year, the Lehigh County Fish and Game Protective Association is celebrating the 75th year of its annual Little Lehigh Fishing Derby, which will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 21 and 22, at the South 12th Street entrance of the Parkway in Allentown.
A longstanding tradition, this year's tournament features the addition of several new sponsors and an increase in the number of fish being released compared to previous years. More than 2,800 trout, including 25 that have been tagged for special prizes, will be released for the two-day event, with the Junior Derby May 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Senior Derby May 22 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.Cabela's store in Hamburg is the presenting sponsor of event and will provide prizes for the winners of each derby. Cabela's will also award the lucky angler that catches the fish with the No. 1 tag a $200 gift card.Live bait and fishing tackle will be available for purchase on site, as well as memberships in the LCFGPA for this club event. Food and refreshments will be sold, but tents, open fires and saving fishing spots are not permitted.**********This year's 10th Annual Bear Creek Festival will be held Sunday, from noon to 4 p.m., at the Schuylkill County Fairgrounds, Summit Station. This free event is a family oriented watershed celebration which offers visitors numerous educational activities related to our environment. Visitors will be able to build their own bluebird house with Home Depot, paint their own flower pot and take part in the annual Schuylkill County Trout Unlimited youth fishing derby.
