Students, faculty, administrators and parents at Marian Catholic High School, Hometown, continued a long-standing tradition of honoring Mary, the Blessed Virgin Mother, during the school's annual May Procession observance on Monday, May 5.

The event took place during the morning Mass that preceded classes followed by the crowning of the Blessed Mother by Laura Cinicola, daughter of Frederick and Theresa Cinicola of Andreas, who had been selected to the school's May Queen.Members of her court were: Sarah Pisak, daughter of John and Regina Pisak, Sugarloaf; Cathleen Cataldo, daughter of Michael and Laura Cataldo, Jim Thorpe; Mary Connors, daughter of Gina Connors, Hazleton; and Holly Massar, daughter of Ernie Massar, Tresckow.The Catholic high school has held this annual tribute since it was founded in 1954, a year that was dedicated to the Blessed Mother and called "The Marian Year." It was then that Archbishop John F. O'Hara decided to combine three existing schools (St. Jerome's, Tamaqua; St. Mary's, Coaldale; and St. Ann's, Lansford) into one diocesan high school. The new central high school was and still is staffed by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Sister Bernard Agnes of that order currently serves as school principal.At Marian, Cinicola has been a consistent on the honor roll student, member of Fillies Volleyball team, and Robert F. Kennedy National Honor Society.The Rev. Kenneth Medve, the school's chaplain, co-celebrated the Mass.
