Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met April 26 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 39 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting.Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation. Secretary Florina Martin read minutes from the previous meeting and provided the financial report.Birthday greetings were extended to Madeline Heffelfinger and Neal Flexer.The annual banquet will be May 10 at the Ryan Township Fire Company. Christy Joy will provide the catering.The group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join.CareNetA grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for CareNet of Tamaqua will be held Saturday at 1 p.m., at Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, 223 E. Broad St. Music will be provided by the "Monday Knights."CareNet provides pregnancy testing, parenting education, guidance, assistance and counseling through its programs. Box 216, Tamaqua, PA 18252.Dog walkThe Tamaqua Area Animal Rescue group will host its Fourth Annual Dog Walk on May 7, following along the Schuylkill Valley Heritage Trail.The walk will begin at the Newkirk Tunnel Environmental Education Area along SR209, just west of Tamaqua. Participants will head west for one mile, then return to the registration area.Registration will begin at 11 a.m. with the walk starting at noon. Registration is required.Pledge forms are available at the Citi Financial office, located in the former Jamesway Mall, the TIMES NEWS Tamaqua office and Tamaqua Borough Hall. The public is welcome to attend.Clean upThe South Ward Neighborhood Committee has rescheduled its annual neighborhood clean up this for this Saturday, May 7.
