Rear-end type crash probed

State police at Fern Ridge reported investigating a rear-end type crash about 5 p.m. on Monday, May 2, along SR209 in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County.

Troopers said a Honda Accord operated by Jessica Scarcella, of Sciota, struck the rear of a Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Mary Meckes, of Kunkletown, while she was stopped to make a left turn into a parking lot. No one was injured, troopers added.Scarcella was cited for following too closely.Troopers also investigated a crash about 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, along SR209 in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Gina M. Smogowicz, 42, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer southbound when she crossed into the northbound lane and struck a fence along the berm at the property of Grant Homes. About 100 feet of wooden fence was damaged in the accident before Smogowicz brought the vehicle to a stop in the parking lot of Franks Pizza.Smogowicz was injured and taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, by West End ambulance.She was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic, troopers added.
