Schuylkill man jailed for theft

A Schuylkill County man was jailed on Monday, April 25, for retail theft at a county department store.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Scott B. Haluska, of Schuylkill Haven, was charged with entering Boscov's in the Fairlane Village Mall, in Norwegian Township, and removing about $429.97 worth of electronic items including two Sony Blu-ray DVD players, one being a 3D unit, and one Panasonic Blu-ray DVD player.According to police Haluska entered the store about noon and walked to the electronics department and removed the merchandise stated. He then cut through various areas of the store before exiting the front doors. He was pursued by store security.He dropped the items outside the store and entered a 2002 Hyundai Elantra, which was parked in the fire zone with the engine running. He then fled towards Ann St., and pulled into a Getty service station located along SR61. At this point he removed the paper license plate and threw it into the garbage.Haluska's vehicle was observed by Saint Clair police as he left the station and re-entered SR61. He was pulled over by Saint Clair police just north of the entrance to a Wal-Mart store.Troopers said Haluska was identified by store security. He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post bail, troopers said.
