While the first day of the scheduled two day run of the 14th Annual Earth Day in Jim Thorpe was the victim of very rainy windy weather on Saturday, according to organizer Shelli Holland, the really great turnout Sunday made up for the rainout the day before.

Featuring live music, crafters, eco workshops, hula hooping, yoga, juggling, a rock climbing wall, recycled rhythm drums, and organic foods, the celebration had something to offer for everyone.While the main venue was at Josiah White Park by the train station, there were also varied activities at the Mauch Chunk Opera House and the Dimmick Memorial Library as well as at several event locations located around downtown Jim Thorpe.Also making appearances at Josiah White Park to the pleasure of youngsters and adults alike were Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl.Environmentalist Franklin Klock from the Carbon County Environmental Education Center gave a bald eagle presentation at the Dimmick Memorial Library.Information alley provided the public with environmental awareness brochures and information on going green at home and in the community.The event was organized by the Jim Thorpe Earth Day Celebration with Shelli Holland and Penny Shelton.
