Walk for life
Care Net of Tamaqua, an organization providing services to pregnant women, plans to open an office in town at 223 E. Broad St.The center will provide life-affirming guidance, counseling, prenatal classes, parenting classes and much more to area women and families.The organization will sponsor a Walk For Life on April 2, beginning at 1 p.m. The route will begin at Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, then head west on Broad Street to Odd Fellows Cemetery. Participants will then head east on Broad Street to to the Stone Gardens area before returning to the church.For more information, or a sponsorship package, call (570) 668-4059.Senior newsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met March 24 with 56 members in attendance. Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "Someone Cares."Vice President Doris Brobst conducted the business session. Secretary Joan Anne Garber provided her weekly report. The group discussed upcoming events, including trips to Country Cupboard on April 5 and Shady Maple on May 9.Pinochle players are still needed for card sessions held following the meeting.The next meeting will be held Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The meeting room is handicap accessible.SS. Peter and PaulFirst Friday observances will be held this week in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Communion calls will be made Thursday to residents of Hometown and Coaldale. All others will begin Friday at 9 a.m. First Friday confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m.Fatima Saturday will be celebrated April 2. Confessions, a recitation of the Rosary and devotions will be held before the 8 a.m. Mass.Members of the parish Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass this Rosary Sunday, April 3. Members will receive Holy Communion as a group.Stations of the Cross will be held Wednesdays, at 7 p.m., during Lent. Also during Lent, confessions will be heard Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m. and Saturdays, from 4-5 p.m., in conjunction with a holy hour that will include Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.The sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated in the parish on March 31.
