A Monroe County resident was sentenced to a jail term after pleading guilty on Tuesday in Carbon County court to escape. He was one of 10 defendants in pending cases to enter a guilty plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Mahoning incidentKyle Kubin, 27, of Tannersville, and formerly of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve three to 12 months on the charge and is facing more problems with the law.Kubin was arrested by Mahoning Township police for an incident on July 2, 2010, at the Wal-Mart store. Police responded to the store for a report of a person out-of-control. When officers arrived Kubin had fled the area on foot but was later located by cellular phone and returned to the store. While running a routine check police learned Kubin had an outstanding warrant for his arrest issued out of Carbon County.When informed of the warrant Kubin fled on foot and a short chase ensued. He was apprehended and taken into custody.Kubin was given credit for 55 days spent in jail to date on the charge. He is facing a parole/probation revocation hearing at a later date.Other pleasOther defendants who entered guilty pleas included:Jonathan J. Puppo, 21, of Albrightsville, pleaded to one count of firearm ownership. He was arrested on Dec. 11, 2010, by state police at Fern Ridge for the purchase of two guns and later selling them. He was not licensed to have the guns.Puppo was placed on probation for a year and ordered to pay a fine of $500. Puppo is currently in the county jail on a probation violation and is serving a six to 12 month term. He was granted work release privileges. The probation term runs consecutive to the jail term.Tiffany Martin, 31, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count each of simple assault and retail theft. She was arrested for an incident on Feb. 23 at the Wal-Mart store in Mahoning Township.She was confronted by store security for a theft of merchandise valued at $47.14. She assaulted a store employee, Damien Quick, while being held by security awaiting the arrival of township police.Nanovic placed her on probation for a year on the assault count and fined her $100 on the theft charge, which was rated a summary offense. She was also ordered to make restitution of $30. He was given credit for 17 days spent in jail on the charges.Maximilian Wing, 22, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested along Mauch Chunk St., in Mahoning Township, on July 3, 2010.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol (D&A) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment.Thomas Michael Mathews, 41, of Slatington, pleaded to one count of driving under the influence (DUI). He was arrested on Oct. 17, 2010, along Lehigh Ave., in Jim Thorpe. Given a test, the result was .19BAC.Nanovic placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300 and get a D&A evaluation. On a summary motor vehicle code violation he was fined $25 and costs.Brian D. Mieczkowski, 28, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on March 3, 2010, along Third St., in Lehighton. Given a test, the result was .16BAC.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and get a D&A evaluation. The sentence is consecutive to a 15 month probation term imposed in Northampton County on charges of simple assault and terroristic threats.Sally Ann Hartman, 46, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI. She was arrested on Aug. 21, 2010, along Second St., in Lehighton. Given a test, the result was .18BAC.Nanovic sentenced her to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $750, get a D&A evaluation, and one year license suspension.She will serve the five days on consecutive weekends beginning April 8, for two days, April 22, one day, and May 6, two days.Amanda L. Longenbach, 23, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of retail theft, as a felony three. She was arrested on Nov. 10, 2010, at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township. She was charged with taking $57.66 worth of merchandise.Longenbach was placed on probation for two years and ordered to supply a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee.Longenbach is facing probation violation in Fayette County, also for retail theft, and has been in prison for the past 50 days on a detainer filed by Fayette County authorities.David J. Goss, 25, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of simple assault. He was arrested on Nov. 13, 2008, for an incident at the Giant store in Mahoning Township.He was confronted outside the store for retail theft by store security officer Robbie Gruber. Goss was charged with assaulting Gruber and dropping the stolen items and fleeing in a vehicle. He was later found and charged.Nanovic placed him on probation for a year and ordered to get a D&A evaluation, provide three hours of community service per month while on probation, and must report once a week to the adult probation office with four listed businesses he sought employment. He was given credit for one day spent in jail on the charge.Goss was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) probation program for first time offenders but was revoked for testing positive for illegal drugs and not paying costs.Alan D. Kovacs, 22, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to two counts of persistent disorderly conduct for an incident on Oct. 30, 2010, in Mahoning Township.He was stopped along Mauch Chunk St. for speeding. He became unruly and was placed under arrest. He caused a problem while in the police cruiser and later at the township police station. Alcohol was involved, police noted.Nanvoic placed him on probation for a year on each count running concurrently and ordered he get a D&A evaluation. He was given credit for eight days spent in jail on the charges.Each defendant must also pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
