Members of the Preceptor Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority met Jan. 19 at the home of Mary Machay. The program for the evening was a presentation by Molly Pavia and Sandra deLay about massage and reflexology.Topics discussed included a Secret Sister Valentine celebration on Feb. 2 at the Restaurant at the Station. The evening will also include a Preceptor Ritual for Lori Schmerfeld. A New Member Ritual for Pat Kibbler will be held March 2 at Schick's Cafe in Tamaqua. Members of all Tamaqua sorority chapters will be invited to attend. Also discussed was a Comedy Night scheduled for Feb. 12 at the American Hose Company in Tamaqua and a clothing drive to be held in June.The next meeting will be held Feb. 2, at 6:30 p.m., at the Restaurant at the Station in downtown Tamaqua.WP softballThe West Penn Girls Softball organization will be accepting applications for the coming season on Feb. 5 and Feb. 12. Registrations will be held at the West Penn Municipal Building, both dates, from 9 a.m. to noon. The league is open to all girls between the ages of 5 and 14. First time players must provide a copy of their birth certificates.For further information, contact Scot Dietrich at (570) 386-2818.Zion LewistownJon Heim will deliver the message at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Youth Group Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Members of the youth group will be participating in the service. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.The Youth Group will meet Friday, from 7-10 p.m., at the youth building at Christ Church, McKeansburg.A Fitness for Friends exercise class will meet twice weekly in the church social hall. The sessions will be held Mondays and Thursdays, from 6-7 p.m.First MethodistThe Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at two worship services this Sunday, 9:30 a.m. at Salem United Methodist, and 10:45 a.m. at First United Methodist Church. Both churches will be participating in Feed A Friend Sunday, with food donations going to the Tamaqua Salvation Army Food Pantry. Both services will also include hymn sings.First Methodist will accept new members during this Sunday's service. Other activities at First Church include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, senior choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. Beginning in February, a new program will be held Mondays at First Church. The "Jesus in the Steps" course is a recovery and group support programmed at helping anyone with an addiction. More information is available by calling (570) 668-3653.Trinity UCCThe Rev. Dr. David Grant will officiate at the 10 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Trinity United Church of Christ. The service will include words for young Christians. Nursery care is available during the service.
