Members of the Preceptor Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority met last week at the home of Cathy Santee. Pam Stump, a visitor from Florida, provided pizza prior to the business meeting.Topics discussed included upcoming social events, including the annual Secret Sister Valentine Exchange, a Feb. 2 Preceptor Ritual for Lori Schmerfeld and a March 2 ritual for new member Pat Kibbler. The next ways and means project will be a used clothing drive in June. Members reviewed the different meeting rituals before the presentation of a program on winter driving tips. Desserts were served by hostess Santee.The next regular meeting will be held Jan. 19, at 7:30 p.m., at the home of Mary Machay.Primitive MethodistThe Rev. Rodney Hall will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service Sunday in Primitive Methodist Church. The service will include a children's sermon. Nursery care is available. James Cavallero will officiate at two worship services this Sunday, 9:30 a.m. at Salem United Methodist, and 10:45 a.m. at First United Methodist Church.First Methodist activities for next week include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, trustees meeting at 6 p.m., Church council meeting at 7 p.m., senior choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.A new member's class will be held Jan. 23, immediately following the worship service. Residents are to place their trees curbside on their regular trash collection days. Trees will be collected as time and weather permit.Trees must be free of all tinsel and decorations. Residents are also asked to remove any plastic bags from the trees. Trees may also be dropped off behind the Tamaqua Borough Garage, at 421 rear E. Broad St.No trees will be collected after Jan. 31.St. John's LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
