Stroudsburg business is destroyed by fire

A longtime Stroudsburg area business was destroyed by fire on Monday morning.

Cyphers Truck Parts on West Main Street in Stroud Township was destroyed along with four apartments above the business.Carl and Lanette Cyphers are the owner of the business which was started by Carl's father, Claude Cyphers, back in the mid-1940s. The business sold everything from truck brakes to engine oil to filters.The fire started in the kitchen area of an apartment above the business, fire officials said.Eight tenants of the apartments lost their possessions in the blaze, which was discovered about 9:20 a.m.Fueled by oil and similar products of the Cyphers' business, the building was quickly engulfed in flames. The property is a total loss, according to fire officials.Fire companies from Stroudsburg and Pocono Township assisted Stroud firemen in battling the blaze. Several explosions were heard during the course of the blaze. Fire officials said the explosions were probably caused by containers of combustible materials related to the business.No injuries were reported.
