S. Sgt. Robert Jones of Mauch Chunk, missing since the fall of Bataan, died on May 31, 1942, according to word received today by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Jones, from the War Department. Confirmation of the soldier's death establishes the fact that he was the first man from this community to give his life in World War II. His death brings to 23 the total of war dead from the Mauch Chunks. S. Sgt. Jones is survived by his parents, who had five sons in the service.
