Pump station repairs a few months away

Passersby driving past the SR309 and Owl Creek Road intersection, in Tamaqua, can't help but notice the devastation caused to the Owl Creek pump station after a vehicle plowed through it on Nov. 10. The Tamaqua Area Water Authority and Tamaqua Borough state it may take a few months for all the repairs to be completed. Damages are estimated to be about $200,000. Temporary repairs are in place and will continue until permanent repairs are done. Robert Linkhorst, 38, of 73 Buck Lane, Tamaqua, was driving south on SR309 in a silver Chevrolet Tahoe pickup truck at about 10:15 p.m. when the truck began swerving. Linkhorst lost control as he neared the Owl Creek Road intersection and the truck slid into the northbound lane, striking a sign post, then destroying the fence surrounding a the pump station. The truck entered the pumping station, went airborne and flipped over, ejecting the driver. Linkhorst was airlifted to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill.
