It's time for the Sounds of the Season annual Christmas concert, presented by the Pleasant Valley Choral Society.
The Pleasant Valley Choral Society will celebrate its 28th year of providing quality music to Monroe County communities. Over the years it has received high acclaim for its unique blend of musical standards from generations past and songs of the present. Members are drawn from communities all over Monroe County, as well as nearby Carbon and Northampton Counties. This true community chorus includes music lovers ranging from high school students to grandparents. Its mission is to bring culture and entertainment to the community by way of diverse musical performances. Since the organization of PVCS in 1984, the chorus has been under the direction of Pocono native Dorothy Mohr, who holds a master's degree in music from West Chester University. Tom Salmon adds his special touch at the keyboard. While the program's musical numbers vary from year to year, the Christmas concerts have several traditions. The concert begins with a candlelight processional followed by sacred music performed in a church-like setting. The party atmosphere of the second half includes Christmas standards, a sing along, a guest appearance by KoKo, the chorus mascot, and an occasional surprise visitor. The show closes with a moving rendition of "Silent Night" which sends a special message into the wintry night. This year's concert features many of the songs we all love to hear during the holidays.Concerts are held in the auditorium at Pleasant Valley High School, Rt. 209 in Brodheadsville. The concert will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12.. Reserve tickets by calling Janet at (570) 620-1570. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.
