Diocesan boardThe Rev. Kenneth A. Medve, pastor of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Diocese of Allentown's Catholic Charities Appeal.The appointment was announced recently by the Most Rev. John O. Barres, D.D., Bishop of Allentown.Medve will serve a three-year term that begins immediately and will run through June 13, 2013.Scholarship programThe St. Mary Magdalene Society Jr. Branch 46 of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, Lansford, is once again sponsoring a scholarship/awards program in which financial awards are presented to a high school or college graduate. Members will assemble in the vestibule of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, that day prior to the 10:30 a.m. Mass. Following the Mass, the Sokols will reconvene at the Viennese Villa, Coaldale, where a business session will precede the dinner.There is no charge for the dinner. C.H.O.S.E. Recreational Organization will have its Christmas Tree Lighting Event Sunday, Nov. 28, at 5 p.m. at the borough hall, Third Street, Coaldale.Christmas Carols will be sung and the Coaldale Fire Company will be bringing Santa on its truck with lots of gifts for all the children. Hot drinks and goodies will be served in the borough hall after the festivities.
