Details of Mahoning incident released
Mahoning Township police released details of an incident involving a wanted person that occurred at an accident scene in the township on Wednesday evening.
Chief Kenneth J. Barnes detailed the events in which a wanted person fled a car and leaped over a retaining wall to flee officers.According to Barnes, this is what happened:About 7:20 p.m. officers were called to a crash along SR209 at the top of the Mansion House Hill in which a large amount of debris had fallen onto the roadway. Police from Jim Thorpe and Lehighton were also dispatched to assist township officers. (Note: details of the accident appeared in Thursday's police log.)While en route to the scene with siren and emergency lights activated, Jim Thorpe police got behind a 2006 Chevrolet in the area of River Street. The vehicle's driver would not yield the right-of-way to the officer and continued in the same direction as police. As the officer approached the township/borough line he was able to pass the Chevrolet, which was still failing to yield as required by law. On scene the officer started to assist township police. The Chevrolet was stopped at the scene due to the road being closed by police in both directions. The driver of the Chevrolet then abruptly exited the car and ran toward the stone wall which borders railroad tracks. The driver jumped over the wall which had a drop of 20-40 feet to the bottom where the tracks are located.A passenger in the car identified the driver as Trevor Hunsicker, 22, of Lehighton. Hunsicker was known to police to have a warrant out for him by the county sheriff's office for failing to appear on an assault charge.A search was then conducted for Hunsicker, who police felt should have some type of injuries, especially to his feet since he was not wearing any shoes.A state police helicopter was called to the scene and utilized its thermal imaging devise in an effort to locate Hunsicker. The road was kept closed and the area surrounded in an effort to locate the suspect.Police were unable to monitor all traffic and it was possible that Hunsicker was picked up by another motorist, Barnes noted. It was also noted that Hunsicker also might have entered the river but the thermal imaging devise did not locate him. Barnes noted that the river was high, the water was moving fast and the temperature was cold.Hunsicker has not been located. Police said he has no permanent address. He is five-feet, six-inches tall, weighs 140 pounds with brown hair and eyes. His last known address was 45 Cedar St., Lehighton.Barnes said on Friday, Nov. 5, township police were summoned to that address due to a disturbance and were advised that Hunsicker was involved and was a wanted person. He fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers.Anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Hunsicker is asked to call 9-1-1, the Carbon County Communications Center.
