A Weatherly man, who allegedly hit a sheriff's deputy with his head and "attempted to crush" him against the passenger door of a police cruiser, has waived his preliminary hearing.

Travis Schoenberger, 22, was scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Bruce Appleton of Palmerton.Schoenberger remains incarcerated in Carbon County prison in lieu of $10,000 bail on charges of aggravated and simple assault, and persistent disorderly conduct.The incident for which the charges were filed happened on Oct. 13.Lt. David Midas of the sheriff's office writes in his affidavit that Franklin Township police officer Frank Buonaiuto had Schoenberger in custody after being apprehended on an arrest warrant.Midas writes, "The defendant was placed in our sheriff's cruiser where he immediately began to smash his head off the secure window partition."According to Midas, Schoenberger appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.While traveling in Franklin Township, Midas states, "The defendant pushed off the rear driver door intentionally attempting to crush me against the passenger-side rear door and window." He said Deputy Hill assisted with securing Schoenberger in the back seat of the vehicle.Midas sat in the rear with Schoenberger.Midas writes in the affidavit that Schoenberger "again became agitated and combative, lunging his body at me. The defendant again pushed off the door with his legs becoming violent, crushing me against the passenger-side rear door and window. The defendant was yelling obscenities and attempted to bite at my arm while striking my body with his head."Midas said he had to hold onto Schoenberger's shoulder and arm to prevent him from lunging again."Throughout the transport the defendant was yelling obscenities at both deputies and was attempting to smash his head off the rear driver-side window and center partition in a violent and tumultuous behavior."
