Holy Trinity

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, holds worship services at 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. On Sunday, Nov. 7, All Saints Sunday will be observed.Also beginning Nov. 7, Holy Trinity will be trying something new for adults between the two worship services. They will be looking at a new series called "Bad Girls of the Bible and what we can learn from them." The sessions will start with Eve and continue for 10 weeks through Jezebel. All are welcome. They will meet Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in the adult education room (use the Fifth Street entrance). Sessions are free and open to the public. All materials will be supplied. Call the church at (610) 826-2524 if you have any questions.Newspaper driveThe men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, Nov. 6. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap area beginning at 8 a.m.Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines; shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery size brown paper bags.Persons missed, or those wishing to dispose of papers throughout the month may take them to the garage across from the church on Fireline Road, which is always open. In case of bad weather, the drive will be held the following Saturday. There is no collection in December.Community mealA free community dinner will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton, from 5-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9. The public is invited to enjoy a free meal and fellowship.Concourse ClubPalmerton Concourse Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, in Lutheran Parish Hall of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave. The meeting will be an "Ethnic Dinner."Railroad Film NightThe Carbon Model Railroad Society of Bowmanstown and Pufferbellys Railroad Gift Shop in Jim Thorpe are sponsoring its Fall Railroad Film Night on Sunday, Nov. 7, starting at 5 p.m. The presentation is titled "Afterlife Images of the LNE@LV Diesel Assignments," by Paul Carpenito.The show will be held at the Jim Thorpe Memorial Hall, 101 East 10th St., Jim Thorpe. Admission is free. Refreshments will be available. For more information, call (610) 824-7730.Tail Waggin' TutorsThe Tail-Waggin' Tutors and their dogs will be at Palmerton Area Library on Nov. 13 from 11 a.m. to noon to listen to children reading out loud to dogs.This program is free and open to all children who love animals and want to practice their reading skills.Parents should call the library at (610) 826-3424 to schedule a time slot for their children.
