Just before midnight Thursday, Tamaqua firefighters and other emergency personnel were called to a one-vehicle rollover involving a tan Subaru Legacy that occurred near downtown Tamaqua at the intersections of North Railroad (SR309) and Biddle streets in front of Padora's Six Pack House and Store, 206 North Railroad St., near Domino's Pizza. Reportedly, while driving south on North Railroad Street, the male driver reached to answer his cell phone, lost control and hit a two-foot stone block. The vehicle became airborne, sideswiped a utility pole while airborne, and then landed on its roof. Tamaqua Fire Police closed SR309 for the duration. A tractor trailer following the detour around the accident sideswiped and caused minimal damage to a utility pole. The male driver of the Subaru, who managed to only suffer cuts and bruises, said he only looked at his cell phone for a brief second.
