Community meal

A free community meal will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton. Enjoy a free meal and fellowship. The evening's them will be "Hoe Down."To become a member call Joan Turko at (610) 826-2716 for more information.Historical Society hosts Paranormal GroupThe Palmerton Area Historical Society will host the Blue Mountain Paranormals at the society's Little White Church, Third Street and Columbia Ave., on Sunday, Oct. 10, beginning at 6 p.m.The public is invited to attend without charge.The church has a long history of occupation by several denominations, as well as use as a school in the early days of Palmerton.The historical society will hold its regular general monthly meeting at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 11, at the Palmerton Area Library. After a short business session, there will be a presentation and video on the United States Constitution. The public is invited to attend, without cost or obligation.Heritage CenterThe next feature in the Palmerton Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave., will be a display of antique (over 50 years old) handmade quilts.They are seeking the loan of your quilts, and as much as you know about their history, for about six months, beginning in January of 2011.If you are willing to lend any such items, call Betsy Burnhauser at (610) 767-2711. Admission is free.Miller-Keystone BloodmobileMiller-Keystone Blood Center conducted a bloodmobile at Palmerton Area High School on Sept. 29.In all, 39 students and faculty registered, and 40 units were collected. National Honor Society members who assisted in set up, registration, and recognition were Blake Campbell, Jillian Farkas, Elizabeth Hahn, William Heinick, Lyndsey Heinrich, Amber Hettler, Brianna Hogden, Megan Mummey, Kaitlin Reimer, Kristen Romano, Jordan Ruzicka, Abigail Storm, and Derek Szena.Adult volunteers were Shirley Neff, Helen Steinmetz, Lucille Rex and Carol Andrews.The next Miller-Keystone bloodmobile at PAHS will be on Thursday, Dec. 2.
