A Nesquehoning man was jailed after being arrested for retail theft.
Borough police chief Sean Smith was called to the Redners Warehouse Market on Friday, Oct. 1, about 11:15 a.m. for a theft incident. At the store Smith made contact wtih Kermit Sponheimer, 151 W. Columbus Ave., and charged him with taking merchandise valued at $7.78 without paying for it.Smith also found Sponheimer in possession of prescription narcotics that were not his.He was taken before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek, of Lansford, and arraigned on a felony three count of retail theft. It was also learned that Sponheimer was on probation through the Carbon County Adult Probation Office for welfare fraud.Bail was set at $5,000 straight cash. Sponheimer failed to post the bail and was committed to the county prison.
