Austin I. Shupp of Palmerton, has been recognized by the United States Achievement Academy as a student of excellence in science.
This is a prestigious honor very few students can hope to attain: The academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students. Shupp, who attends Palmerton Junior High School, was nominated by his teacher, Michael Lengle. Selection is based on academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability, and recommendation from a qualified sponsor.Shupp will appear in the academy's official yearbook, which is published nationally. He is the son of Patricia DeSouse of Palmerton and the grandson of Pat and Carlin Haydt of Palmerton, and Grace and Carl Auchter of Macungie.
