Bridge street in Lehighton was closed to traffic Saturday night after a sport utility vehicle (SUV) struck and snapped off a utility pole. The incident occurred as the SUV was being operated west when for some unknown reason the driver lost control swerving to the right impacting with the pole. The pole leaned across the roadway with the utility lines hanging just above the roadway. The driver was injured in the incident being treated by Lehighton paramedics. The Franklin and Mahoning Township fire companies responded to the scene. Lehighton police are investigating the incident. Bridge street was closed for several hours.
