Joseph Devenney, Mauch Chunk, received word fromt he War Department that his son, Staff Sgt. William J. Devenney, 22, is missing in action since April 10 over New Ireland in the Pacific theatre of war. Other Mauch Chunk soldiers previously reported missing in action include Cpl. Bobby Jones, Philippine Islands; Sgt. William P. Shuck, Mediterranean area; Staff Sgt. Joseph Gillespie, prisoner of war in Germany, and Technician 5th class Charles A. Reihman Jr., prisoner of war in Germany.
