Tamaqua Area High School senior members of the track and field team take part in a ceremonial first run to dedicate the new all-weather, synthetic surface track at Tamaqua Area Sports Stadium, The track was completed last summer and used for the first time in competition in a meet with Pine Grove Area on Tuesday. Longtime Raider track and field coach and Tamaqua Class of 1943 graduate Harry Fetterman, far right, was the honorary starter for the event. Looking on are Tamaqua High Principal RuthAnn Gardiner and Larry Wittig, president of the school board. Also participating were Superintendent Carol Makuta and former Tamaqua track coaches Phil Houm and Tom Bonner, as well as current coach Tom Kanger.
