Tom Dougherty, councilman in Mauch Chunk and gas fitter for the P. P. and L. Company, saved the life of Joseph Schaff and forgot about it, but the Lehigh Valley Safety Council, which is engaged in the work of preventing death and accident to humanity, made a record of Mr. Dougherty's noble act. He was awarded the Thomas N. McCarter medal ofthe American Gas Association in recognition of his brave deed. He was honored for the resuscitation of a stricken man.
