Writing lectures
The Black Diamond Writers Network continues sponsoring a series of lectures and discussions designed to help aspiring writers get started and how to get published. Interested parties may choose from two sessions scheduled for tomorrow, Feb. 25 at Lehighton Memorial Library, 6:30-7:30 p.m.; or the Tamaqua Public Library, 7-8 p.m.The group is also sponsoring a writers' conference on April 17, at the Schuylkill County Council for the Arts, Pottsville.For more information, or to register, call Kathy at (570) 645-3059 or log on to

An initial planning session will be held Feb. 27, at 5 p.m., at Schick's Cafe, Mauch Chunk Street. kmaradeo@yahoo.com.Senior newsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart.Last week's meeting was attended by 60 members. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session.Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "God's Love."Vice President Doris Brobst reported that Gayle Wall has been transferred to a rehab center in Mechanicsburg, and Gladys Weaver was added to the sick list. A moment of silence was observed in memory of Theresa Reed and Gladys Long.Due to the inclement weather, the crowning of the Valentine's Day King and Queen was held last week. The honors went to George Fisher and Dana Taft.The group discussed a bus trip to the Sands Casino, Bethlehem, on March 8. More information is available by calling Jean at (570) 668-4165.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The meeting room is handicap accessible.Class of 2010Parents of the Tamaqua Class of 2010 will meet on March 1, at 7 p.m., in the senior high school cafeteria.
