Weissport woman missing, family say she is an endangered person
Posters on trees along the Lehigh Canal towpath at Weissport and in the Weissport park are a testament that Sharon Weaver of Weissport is loved.
Weaver has been missing since Wednesday night.Weaver lived with Richard (Sonny) Kern in Weissport. Kern had been with her at the Boathouse, a bar along Canal Road in Franklin Township, for about an hour where Weaver had stopped by for a couple beers and to see her friend, Kim Everett, the bartender. Everett's grandchildren were visiting and Weaver wanted to drop off several video tapes for Everett to show to her grandchildren.Kern said that Weaver left the bar about 20 minutes before him sometime between 6:30 and 7 p.m.Since neither Weaver or Kern can drive, Kern expected to see her at home, but when he arrived back at home, she wasn't there. When she did not come home that night, Kern started calling her friends in the morning to see if anyone knew where she was. No one had seen or heard from her since Wednesday."She always calls me every few days," said Everett. "I haven't heard from her since Wednesday." The two have been friends for about 20 years. Both Kern and Everett say that this is a behavior very unlike Weaver."She would never miss her daughter's birthday," said Kern. "Her daughter, Kristen's birthday was Friday. The card is still here that she had ready for her."He said that Weaver loved birthday celebrations and had held parties for her daughter up until she was 19 years old.Kern also noted that Weaver had only $20 with her and she has not accessed any of her accounts. He is especially worried because she is an epileptic and was on medication. She has not had any of her medication since Wednesday morning."She has missed 18 pills, nine doses," said her daughter Kristen Dunning, last night. "She is also on high blood pressure medication. Without her medications, she would be having seizures all the time by now."Dunning said she had told state police that not only is her mother endangered because of the missed medications, but she also was aware that a previous boyfriend was seen at the Boatyard and had been abusive to her mother in the past."He assaulted me," said Dunning. Dunning said that she has told state police about the past assault and his alleged threats to her mother.Weaver is five feet one inch tall and weighs about 210 lbs. She had blonde hair. She was last seen wearing blue jeans and a light gray hooded zippered sweat shirt.Kern reported her missing to state police and Dunning has called local hospitals to see if she might have been injured. Her friends from Middlecreek Christian Church, Kresgeville, scoured the area around the Boathouse and Weissport area looking for her and put posters up all over Weissport. On Sunday afternoon, state police helicopters were searching the Lehigh River at Weissport, but have not found any sign of the woman.Kern said that he did not know if Weaver walked on Canal Road toward home or if she walked along the levee and railroad trestle, but he believes she would have walked along the street because it was dark.Anyone with information about the missing woman are asked to call state police at (610) 377-4270 or Weissport Police at (610) 377-0851.Dunning said that state police plan to resume the search today.State police had no additional information this morning.
