Two of the four municipalities in the Palmerton Area School District will have races to be decided on Tuesday, Nov. 3, when Carbon County holds its General Election. Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in each of the county's 51 election districts.

Voters in Towamensing Township and Palmerton Borough will have choices to make, and that will be the case in balloting for positions on the Palmerton Area School District Board of Education. Meanwhile, there are no contested races in Lower Towamensing Township nor Bowmanstown.Towamensing TownshipThere are actually two races to be decided in the township, those being for the four-year term as tax collector and a six-year term on the board of supervisors.In the tax collector's race, incumbent Mary Beers, a Democrat, is opposed by Republican Jennifer Green.And for the supervisor's seat, the candidates are Democrat Kevin S. Strohl and Republican Thomas F. Newman.No one is running in the township for the two-year term as auditor, the six-year term as auditor or a six-year term as constable.However, there are candidates for judges and inspectors of elections in the township. In District 56, Republican Helen A. Christman is the lone candidate for judge of elections, while Democrat Wendy K. Hoppel and Republican Ricky R. Waibel are running for inspector of elections. In District 57-1, Democrat Grace Beer is running alone for judge of elections, while Democrat Lois Beer and Republican Joe Concilio are seeking the inspector of elections post. In District 57-2, Democrat Natalie K. Kleintop is running unopposed for judge of elections, while Democrat Carolyn F. Andrews and Republican Mary Anne Shafer are running for the inspector of elections position.Palmerton BoroughIn Palmerton Borough, there are six persons running for four four-year terms on the borough council. Democrats Kris Hoffner and Jason Behler will appear on both ballots, as they won both Democratic and Republican nominations in May. Joining them on the Democratic Ballot are incumbents Sherri L. Malik and Randolph Gursky, while the other two GOP candidates are incumbent Richard L. Nothstein and Philip J. Binder.Councilman Brad M. Doll, a Democrat, is the apparent next mayor in the community. He won both the Democratic and Republican nominations in May for the four-year term to succeed retiring Mayor Peter J. Delich.Tax Collector Diane A. Andreas, a Democrat, is running for re-election and is unopposed.There is also a race for the six-year term of constable in Palmerton. The candidates are Democrat Gavin Oplinger and Republican Paul Shinsec.Meanwhile, there are candidates for the judges and inspectors of elections positions in town. In District 47, Democrat Margaret J. Kuhet and Republican Alice I. Henning are running for the inspector of elections position. In District 48, Democrat Sarina Berlow is the lone candidate for judge of elections while seeking the inspector of elections post are Democrat Bernard Berlow and Republican Lisa Snell Kern.No one is running for the judge of election or inspector of elections post in District 49.Lower Towamensing TownshipThe race for the six-year term as supervisor saw former supervisor Jesse Mendez win both the Democratic and Republican nominations in May, meaning there is no ballot contest in that race in Lower Towamensing Township.Likewise, incumbent Tax Collector Connie D. Brown, a Democrat, will appear on both ballots in pursuit of re-election to a four-year term, as she too won both her party's and the GOP's nominations in May.Lamar A. Fronheiser is in the same position. He won both nominations for the six-year term as constable in May.There are candidates for judges of elections and inspectors of elections positions in the township as well. In District 32, Democrat Margaret Midge Klotz is running unopposed for judge of elections, while Joseph A. Gerny Jr., a Republican, is unchallenged for the inspector of elections position. In District 33, Republican Stacey A. Arthur is unopposed for judge of elections, while the inspector of elections race is between Democrat Louise M. Koons and Republican Marie Dieter.There are no candidates for the four-year term or six-year term as auditors that are up for grabs in the township.Bowmanstown BoroughThere are no races to be decided in Bowmanstown Borough this time around. Incumbent Mayor Keith G. Billig, a Republican, is running unopposed for re-election to a four-year term, while Democratic Tax Collector Maria E. Smith is unchallenged in her bid for re-election to a four-year term.For positions on the borough council, there are four candidates for four open positions. On The Democratic side are incumbents Burdell C. Steigerwalt and William H. Ravert while on the GOP side will be Chad Everett and Troy L. Muffley.Salvatore Lizzio, a Republican, is running for the six-year term as constable in the borough and is unopposed.No one is running for the two-year term as assessor.For judge of elections, the only candidate is Republican Paulette M. Keiper, while seeking the inspector of elections position are Democrat Constance J. Berger and Republican Sandra L. Kuntz.Palmerton Area School BoardMeanwhile, the voters in Towamensing and Lower Towamensing townships and Palmerton and Bowmanstown boroughs will participate in the balloting for positions on the Palmerton Area School District Board of Education. Four four-year terms are up for grabs, for which there are five candidates.Barry W. Scherer, Darlene Yeakel and Clarence Chuck Myers will appear on both the Democratic and Republican ballots while the fourth Democratic candidate is Cindy Gasper and the fourth GOP candidate is Susan Debski.
