A Lansford man has been arrested by Tamaqua Police for allegedly hurting his 19-month-old daughter.

Charles J. Durning, 27, of 328 W. Ridge St., Lansford, was taken into custody Saturday evening following a lengthy investigation into the July 29, 2008 incident.According to the affadavit of probable cause, Durning, who was staying at 21 Market St., Tamaqua, had custody of his daughter that evening. When the child was returned to her mother the following day, there were bruises on her face.Durning told the mother the bruises were a result of the child falling down a stairway in the home sometime between the hours of 2 and 3 a.m.The child was taken to a local emergency room, where physicians determined the bruises could not have been a result of the fall. Schuylkill County Child Protective Services were alerted to the situation. A full investigation was started.In follow up interviews, Durning insisted the bruises were caused by a fall, although the details did change a little. At one point, Durning claimed to have not been in the home at the time of the accident. His alibi could not be confirmed.After reviewing additional testimony from medical experts, Durning was asked to meet again with police. Those requests were denied, resulting in a warrant being issued for his arrest.Durning was then arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer, Tamaqua, who set bail at $25,000.Unable to post the required ten percent, Durning was lodged in the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville.
