18th annual parade held in downtown Palmerton

From costumes, to decorations, to floats, creativity permeated throughout the 18th annual Palmerton Halloween Parade.

The four-division parade completed another successful run on Sunday, as residents lined Delaware Avenue to catch a glimpse of the impressive Halloween display.Jane Stroup, parade co-chairperson, said the event "went off without a hitch.""It was scary (earlier in the day) when it rained," Stroup said. "But, we did it."Susie Arner, parade chairperson, thanked everyone along the parade route who donated to the parade, and said volunteers are needed for next year's parade. V.F.W. vehicles; and the Carbon County Sheriff Office.Those who comprised Division 1 of the parade were the Palmerton Community Ambulance; Lehigh Valley Italian-American Band; Palmerton High School Varsity Cheerleaders; Palmerton Junior High Cheerleaders; Palmerton Area Education Association; Palmerton Area High School Homecoming Court 2009; Haunting at the Waldorf; Cub Pack 209; Carbon County Fair Queen 2009; and Palmerton Fire Company # 1.Division 2 consisted of the Palmerton Ambulance; Palmerton Booster Club 100 pound football team; Northampton Twirlers; Jerry's Small Engine Sales and Service; Brownie Troop 3259; Girl Scout Troop 37; Palmerton Booster Club 85 pound football team; Committee to elect Steve Serfass; Brownie Troop 329 Scouting lights up our lives; and the Aquashicola Lower Towamensing Volunteer Fire Co.Participants in Division 3 were the Palmerton Ambulance; Yensers Tree Farm; Towamensing Soccer Club; Girl Scout Troop 33412; Brownie Troop 3112; Palmerton Booster Club Flag Cheering; Reeds Painting and Power Washing; Dance with Kim; Tyson Family; Palmerton Booster Club Flag Football; and Towamensing Township Trachsville Fire Co.Division 4 was composed of the Palmerton Ambulance; Palmerton Booster Club 85 pound cheerleaders; Palmerton Booster Club 130-pound football and cheerleaders; Pride and Passion Grooming Shoppe; Committee to Elect Carole Walbert; Palmerton Towamensing Baseball League - large float; Palmerton Booster Club 100 pound cheerleaders; Tiny Miss Lehighton Park Autumn Bollinger; Cub Pack 41; Bowmanstown Fire Co.; Parryville Fire Co.; East Penn Volunteer Fire Company; Palmerton Ambulance Vehicles; and Palmerton Fire Department.The emcee duties were once again performed by parade announcer Rory Koons. Judges were Susie George, Connie Reinhart and Louise Koons.Monetary awards were provided through parade sponsors, as well as donations received from the spectators along the parade route.Parade winners were:Large Floats, Judges Choice for Overall Outstanding Large Float - Palmerton Booster Club 85 pound cheering, "We Lei A whoopin on the Competition;" Judges Choice for Outstanding Bomber Float - Palmerton Booster Club Flag Football; 1. Palmerton Booster 100 pound Football Sunday Night Football, Honorable Mention - Palmerton Towamensing Baseball League "Take me out to the Ballgame," and Towamensing Soccer Club.Small Floats, Judges Choice for Outstanding Small Float - Girl Scout Troop 33412 "Girl Scouts give a Hoot", 1. Junior troop 37 "We all live in a Girl Scout submarine," 2. Booster Club Flag Cheerleaders "Cheerleaders are fired up," 3. Booster Club 85 pound football.Decorated Automotive - 1. Palmerton Booster Club 130 pound cheerleaders and football players; Judges Choice for Best Overall Performance from a Bomber Cheering Group - Palmerton Junior High cheerleaders Junior High "Cheerleaders are Totally Rad," Honorable Mention Cheering Group - Palmerton Booster Club 100lb. cheerleaders.Best Appearing Costumed Group - 1. The Palmerton Booster Club 85 pound cheering team came out on top in the Large Floats, Judges Choice for Overall Outstanding Large Float for its "We Lei a Whoopin on the competition."
