Work progressing on age-restricted apartment complex in Palmerton

Progress continues to be made on an age-restricted, residential apartment complex in Palmerton.

Known simply as Cornerhaven, the entity, located at 697 First Street, will consist of eight apartment units for residents age 55-and-older.The property is the site of the former Maria Rose Fashions, which for over a half-century specialized in women's clothing and later athletic wear until it closed in December.Owners Dean and Angela Moyer received permission from Borough Council in April to convert the former textile factory into the apartment units. The couple also own Dynamite Woodworking, at 180 Delaware Avenue.Dean Moyer said about four first-floor apartments should be completed by the end of this month. The other four apartments could be completed by the end of November, he said. Each of the apartments will feature a stove and refrigerator, granite countertops, tile bathrooms, and ceiling fans, Moyer said. He said there is also a modern sprinkler system, front porch, mailboxes, and a coin-operated laundry facility.Moyer said there will be an electronic door system for security purposes, whereby the tenants will be able to let their visitors in from their rooms."We're trying to make it as easy for them as we can," Moyer said. Some of the apartments are signed, but several remain available."Dean Moyer urged interested parties to stop in for a tour of the complex. For more information, call (610) 826-5719.
