A Jim Thorpe woman, accused of offering a police officer $10,000 if he didn't file DUI charges against her, waived a hearing that was scheduled on the charge yesterday.

Renee L. Riley, 31, of Center Street, had the charges forwarded to the November term of Carbon County Court.The hearing was scheduled in front of District Judge Edward Lewis of Jim Thorpe.Riley was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, bribery of an official, disorderly conduct, and two traffic summary offenses.The charges stem from an incident at about 11:35 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, in Jim Thorpe.The arresting officer, patrolman Lee Marzen, wrote in his criminal complaint that he initially stopped Riley for an alleged stop sign violation at the intersection of Center and Eighth Street. The vehicle fled, but eventually stopped, parking on the wrong side of the roadway, the affidavit says.Marzen alleges the driver and a passenger both jumped out the vehicle, but he ordered both back inside.When asked to take a field sobriety test, Marzen said in the affidavit that Riley "became argumentive and started to yell out loudly that she was not drunk.'While being transported to the Lehighton Campus of Blue Mountain Medical Center for a blood alcohol test, "Riley offered this officer $10,000 in exchange for not pursuing DUI charges," Marzen alleges. He says in the affidavit, "I advised Riley that I was doing my job and I was not taking money."After having the blood test done, Marzen said he transported her back to her residence. He alleges that she again offered him $10,000 to make the DUI go away."Marzen states in the affidavit, "Again, Riley was advised that I was not taking her bribe. She became irate and continued to yell in the back of my patrol car."
