The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., in the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart.Last week's meeting was attended by 87 members and one guest, Rita Thompson. President Jean Yanick conducted the business session.Aseneth Horan and Rose Eick were added to the sick list.Eleanor Roberts offered an invocation, entitled "My Gift."Secretary Eleanor Schmerfeld offered her weekly report. Jean Machamer offered inspirational readings.Vice President Jean Behr reported sending get well cards to Aseneth Horan and Rose Eick.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.St. Peter'sThe Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The church's Pennsylvania Dutch heritage will be celebrated. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the church board will meet at 10:45 a.m. and the Confirmation class will meet at 1 p.m.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Women's Association of St. Peter's will meet at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, Prayer group meets at 5 p.m., Brownies will meet at 6:30 p.m. and dinner theater rehearsal will be at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, Bereavement Camp, sponsored by St. Luke's Hospice, will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: Junior Choir at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.United MethodistFirst and Salem United Methodist Churches will participate in a joint worship service this Sunday, at 9:30 a.m., in First United Methodist Church. The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate. The congregations will celebrate Laity Sunday.Rush taxesThe office of Rush Township Tax Collector Dolores Walck will be closed Wednesday evening on Oct. 21. The closing is due to a township officials' convention.Class of 1984The Tamaqua Area Class of 1984 will meet Oct. 22, at 7 p.m., at Sisters Cantina and Restaurant to plan for a 25th-anniversary reunion.
