The service will be led by the Rev. Michael Frost, a long time resident of Monroe County and former pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Effort. The Rev. Frost has been conducting Blessings of the Animals services for the past few years at his present church, Zion's Stone Church of West Penn Township, Schuylkill County. The Rev. Frost said that he is hoping for a great turnout of not just dogs and cats, but all kinds of animals, the more exotic the better. There has been a long-standing tradition in the wider Christian Church of holding special services for the blessings of pets and other animals in conjunction with the Festival Day of St. Francis of Assisi, which falls on Oct. 4.Traditionally, Blessing of the Animal services were held by agricultural communities seeking to recognize the role animals play as pets, as helpmates with labor, and, also for the food they provide.
