The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., in the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart. Last week's meeting was attended by 82 members and four guests, Anna Eipert, Ruth Lang, Ann fern and Rick Valenti. President Jean Yanik conducted the business meeting. Eleanor Roberts offered an invocation, entitled "Tender Mercies."Reports were offered by treasurer Dolores Walck and secretary Eleanor Schmerfeld. Jean Machamer provided inspirational readings. Vice President Jean Behr reported sending a get-well card to Mary Draper. The membership total has reached 183.An election of officers will be held during the Sept. 10 meeting.A public forum on Medicare Part D will be offered on Sept. 22, 10 a.m. to noon, at the Tamaqua Community Center. The public is welcome to attend.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.BloodmobileAn American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be held in Tamaqua on Sept. 23, from 1 to 6 p.m., at St. John United Church of Christ, Pine and Biddle streets.Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in general good health is eligible to donate.This visit is being sponsored by the Alpha Theta Master Chapter of Beta Signa Phi Sorority.United MethodistFirst and Salem United Methodist Churches will participate in a joint worship service and church picnic this Sunday at the West Penn Township Picnic Grove. The Rev. James Caravello will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service. The picnic, which will be held immediately following the service, will include fellowship, dinner and games.Stranger dangerBethany Evangelical Congregational Church will offer the session "Stranger Danger" on Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m. The free event is designed to offer children ways to stay safe, be smart and protect themselves from strangers and the possibility of abduction.The public is welcome to attend.For more information, call 668-5144.St. Peter'sThe Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Harvest Home Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include Sunday school promotions and a Joyous Noise Offering. The meeting will be preceded by a Mass, at 7:30 p.m., in the church.New members are always welcome.Animal rescueThe Tamaqua Area Animal Rescue group will meet on Thursday, at 7 p.m., in Tamaqua Borough Hall. The group is in need of volunteer foster parents for the stray dogs they rescue.TAAR is an all volunteer group.
