The Gallery at the Tamaqua Art Center will host a reception to highlight the work of two Tamaqua area women this Friday, from 6-8 p.m., at 114 W. Broad St. Featured artists will be Lori Remmel, a photography/design teacher at Tamaqua Area Senior High School, and Gabrielle "Gabby" Smarr, a student at the Tyler School of Arts, Philadelphia. Smarr is a former student of Remmel's.Remmel's work features the scraps of photo paper left behind by her students, while Smarr concentrates on creating beauty from items tossed away by society. Both artists are determined to make "somethings from nothings."The reception is free and open to the public. The art work will continue to be displayed at the gallery through Oct. 16.SS. Peter and PaulFirst Friday observances will be held this week in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Communion calls for parishioners who reside in Coaldale and Hometown will be made on Thursday. Otherwise, communion calls will begin on Friday, at 9 a.m., following the 8 a.m. Mass and devotions.Fatima Saturday will be celebrated on Sept. 5. Confessions will be heard beginning at 7:30 a.m. A recitation of the Rosary and devotions will be held before the 8 a.m. Mass.The parish Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass this Sunday and receive Holy Communion as a group. New members are always welcome.Calvary MethodistThe Rev. Brian Reading will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, an hour of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.Prayer and Share services are held Wednesdays at 7 p.m.St. John UCCThe Rev. Kevin Duffy-Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. The service will include Holy Communion and will be followed by a time of fellowship. Sunday school classes for all ages will begin at 11 a.m. The weekly service will be broadcast on radio station WLSH, 1410 AM, at 11:30 a.m.Activities for next week will include: Monday, Consistory meeting at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.
