St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, will host a Diabetes Health Fair on Wednesday, Oct 7. This community education event will take place from 5 -7 p.m. at the Tamaqua Salvation Army, West Broad Street (Route 209), Tamaqua.

St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital Diabetes Health Fair will provide information on diabetes prevention, diabetes education, diabetes services, the progression of diabetes and making healthy choices.A brief educational presentation on Diabetes will be made at 5pm and 6pm by endocrinologist Bankim A. Bhatt, MD of St. Luke's Center for Diabetes & Endocrinology. Throughout the event, attendees will have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with diabetes educators, optometrists, physical therapists, wound care professionals and others regarding the prevention of diabetes, understanding the progression of Type I and Type II Diabetes, advanced technologies available for the treatment of diabetes, easy ways to make healthy and affordable food choices as well as learn more about the endocrinology services available through St. Luke's telehealth initiative. The seasonal flu vaccine will also be offered to adults 18 years of age and older. Medicare will be billed for eligible enrollees; all others will be charged $29."We'll be holding a brief education presentation at 5pm and 6pm for the people in attendance," said Kim Otto, CRNP, St. Luke's Miners Health Center. "From 5pm - 7pm, they'll be able to enjoy the health fair and talk with medical professionals about any questions or concerns they may have. The health fair will provide a great opportunity for people to learn about diabetes and good nutritional habits. I encourage people with and without diabetes to attend to learn more about good health."The event is open to the public and provided free of charge.
