Schuylkill man jailed on charges

A Schuylkill County man was jailed on Friday, Oct. 2, after he was observed attempting to steal a all terrain vehicle from a storage shed.

State police at Schuylkill Haven identified the suspect as Jeffrey Leinheiser, 18, of Pottsville.According to troopers about 6:40 a.m. Leinheiser was at storage sheds along Ann St., in the East Mines area of Norwegian Township. In one of the shelds he was observed attempting to cut through the frame of a 2000 Yamaha Banshee ATV that was chained to the wall of the sheld. He was trying to cut through the frame to slip the chain off the frame. The ATV owner, Bryan Gradwell, observed the incident.Leinheiser then fled on foot through nearby woods. He was taken into custody a short time later by troopers at 48 Ann St., where he was temporarily residing.He was taken before duty District Judge Charles Moran, of Pottsville, and charged with burglary, criminal trespass, attempted theft and criminal mischief. He was committed to the county prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
