A Palmerton man was sentenced to a county prison term on a drunken driving charge on Thursday in Carbon County court. He was one of several defendants in pending cases to enter a guilty plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Fifth DUIJohn Michael Snyder, 52, was sentenced to serve three to one day less 24 months in prison on a driving under the influence (DUI) charge and 90 days on a driving under suspension-DUI related count. Snyder was arrested on March 17 after being stopped for speeding along SR248 in the area of Bowmanstown. State police clocked his vehicle as going 95 miles-per-hour in a 55 zone. Given a test, the result was .17 BAC.Nanovic also noted that it was the fifth DUI conviction for Snyder, although two of the five are more than 10 years old and don't count for sentencing purposes for the instant case.Earlier this year Snyder was sentenced on a prior DUI to serve six to 12 months in prison. He told the court that he had entered an inpatient rehabilitation facility shortly after his arrest on March 17 and successfully completed the 28-day program.On the DUI charge Nanovic imposed a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension, ordered he get a D&A evaluation, granted work release privileges, continue his alcohol counseling program, and render three hours of community service per month after he is released from prison and serves the balance of his term.On the suspension count he was ordered to pay a fine of $1,000 and another year suspension.Nanovic ordered the prison terms run concurrent with his present term meaning he has about another four months to serve in jail.Wayne Dreitlein, 53, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on May 2 along Broad St., in Beaver Meadows. Given a test, the result was .30 BAC.A first offense Nanovic placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300 and get a D&A evaluation. On a summary offense he was fined $25 and costs.Willard Alvin Ahner, 53, of Aurora, Mo., pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Oct. 11, 2003, along SR903 in Kidder Township. Shortly after his arrest he moved to Missouri and could not be found. He was stopped in that state for a motor vehicle code violation earlier this year and police learned of a warrant for his arrest in Pennsylvania. He was taken into custody and held in jail in Missouri before returning to face the charge.Nanovic said he would sentence him under the provisions of the drunken driving law in affect in 2003. He was sentenced to serve 30 days to one day less one year in jail, a fine of $300 and one-year license suspension. He was also ordered to get a D&A evaluation and render 20 hours of community service.He given credit for the three days spent in jail and 28 days spent in a inpatient rehab center and paroled.Randy L. Dieter, 37, of Ashfield, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on May 16 along Blue Mountain Road, in East Penn Township, operating a all terrain vehicle. Given a test, the result was 13 BAC.Sentencing was deferred.Marco J. Caruso, 24, of Coaldale, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Aug. 16, 2008, along Springgarden St., in Lansford. Given a test, the result was .13 BAC.Nanovic placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300 and get a D&A evaluation.Nicholas J. Salfelder, 24, of Staten Island, N.Y., pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on June 29, 2008, along SR903 in Penn Forest Township. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000 and one year license suspension and make restitution for damages totaling $22,598.11 to an insurance company. He was given credit for two days spent in jail on the charge and began his third day immediately.Barry Dean Weaver, 57, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on May 31, along Blakeslee Drive East in Mahoning Township. Given a test, the result was .16 BAC.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and get a D&A evaluation.Marvin Keith Lockhart, 49, of Shenandoah, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Jan. 6, 2008, along E. Ridge St., in Lansford. Given a test, the result was .26 BAC. He was previously placed in the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) probation program for first time offenders but had it revoked for violating conditions.Nanovic sentenced him to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one year license suspension and ordered he get a D&A evaluation.He will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. on Oct. 2.All defendants must also pay court costs and a $50 per month supervision fee.
